RHS AVID 11 Fall Syllabus
Program Description
Roseville High School has the distinction of being an AVID National Demonstration Site. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an academic elective program that prepares students for college and career readiness and success. The program enrolls students who desire structured support for college preparation and admissions. Students must be determined to succeed in a rigorous high school curriculum that meets or exceeds the a-g college entrance requirements.
Class Description
AVID 11 prepares students for the rigors of meeting four-year college entrance requirements. Each week, students participate in tutor-facilitated tutorial groups, motivational activities, and build academic success skills through critical reading practice, analytical writing, academic research, collaborative discussion, and inquiry. Additionally, students engage in activities around college and career opportunities, and exploring their own student agency. The 11th grade AVID Elective course is the first part in a junior/senior seminar course that focuses on writing and critical thinking expected of first-year college students. Students research colleges and college majors, sources of financial aid, and the importance of service learning as it relates to their future studies and career.. Students prepare for, register for, and take the PSAT, SAT and/or ACT. They also complete senior course registration, drafts of a resume, a letter of recommendation form, and essays for college applications and scholarships.
