February is Black History Month: Today we are recognizing Ida B. Wells! She was an American investigative journalist, educator, and early leader in the civil rights movement. She helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She dedicated her life to combating prejudice and violence, and fighting for African-American equality. Wells was the most famous black woman of her time in America. Did you know Phillis Wheatley was only twelve-years-old when she became the first female African American published author? She published her first poem in 1773.
