patterned and planned responses with some spontaneous conversations. The curriculum includes the
following: vocabulary development, pronunciation practice, development of listening and reading
comprehension skills, short writing assignments, and reading authentic materials as well as grammar skills as
they relate to topics studied. Emphasis is placed on listening, reading and writing. These are the first skills
acquired by novice learners. Students will be introduced to culture appropriate to the level of the language
they are studying.
