Prerequisite: Grade of B or better in English 10 and an academic GPA of 3.0 or higher. This course may be taken in lieu of CP English 11. Summer reading and writing are required. A limited number of seats will be available in the block and students will be selected randomly for the block. Enrollment beyond the number of seats in the block will be in a regular term class. Signed AP contract must be submitted by May 1st.
Students in this course will develop flexibility and skill in a variety of writing modes, which can be applied in all subject areas in college, as well as in personal and professional situations. Writing will focus on narration, exposition, and argumentation modes. Students will read a variety of non-fiction as models for their writing. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring the skills necessary to pass the AP English Language and Composition exam, through which they may receive English credit at most colleges and universities.
