Athletics Update and Information

Oakmont Families,

As you have most likely read from our district RJUHSD has begun the process of reopening our Athletics programs at each of our high school sites under a plan with multiple phases and restrictions. The purpose of this email is to give Oakmont families an update on this process here at our site and what the next steps are. Throughout this process, the health and safety of all participants and staff will be our primary focus as we look to adapt to the protocols and measures enacted to address the issues of COVID 19.

We are beginning the process of  authorizing Fall Sports programs to begin activities under the Phase One Athletics Return to Play Guidelines guidelines set by our district. These activities are training and conditioning activities both inside and outside under strict limitations and guidelines that limit group size, equipment usage, and have cleaning components built-in per directives from the Placer County Office of Health and Human Services. That does not mean that every program will be beginning on the same day or even holding activities this summer. We are allowing our coaches to address their program and set up what they feel are safe and beneficial activities for preparing for next season given our current limitations. Please contact your specific Varsity Coach for details on their activities or email the Athletic Director for information. You can find a list of our Fall Sports and Head Coaches here:

Oakmont Athletics is only endorsing activities run under these guidelines, under the direction of our coaching staff, and that are conducted on-campus at Oakmont. Anything el;se is not endorsed by OHS Athletics and should not be encouraged to occur on our site or offsite.

At this time RJUHSD is not opening summer activities up to Winter or Spring Sports to ensure that we are safely protecting our students and athletes. As we open up and get through the first rounds of Fall Sports activities we will be meeting as a site and district regularly to discuss changes to our policies and consider more sports activities as we move forward. If you have questions on this please direct them to Athletic Director John Hunter.

All summer activities are voluntary and will have no bearing on the selection of final rosters once seasons begin for Fall Sports here at OHS. That being said, there are some requirements to participate in any summer activities that we need to make all families aware of.

Requirements for Participation in Summer Training

Athletic Clearance

The first requirement is that every student who wants to participate gets athletically cleared by Oakmont Athletics before they can participate in any activities. You can find the directions to that process here: Please do this as soon as possible as we are trying to clear athletes as quickly as we can so they can participate fully on day one.

Due to ongoing issues with access to health care providers the district has approved the following for summer work in regards to physicals and their need for Athletic Clearance.

  • Returning athletes can have their current 19-20 physical extended until July 24th if digitally submitted with their 20-21 Athletic Clearance.  With no new physical dated on or after May 19th 2020 submitted by July 24th through the online clearance process they will be pulled from all activity until they submit an updated physical or utilize and submit the forthcoming CIF 30 Day Physical Waiver which takes effect when Fall Sports begin.
  • Incoming 9th-grade students will need to have a new physical dated on or after May 19th, 2020 with no exceptions.

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability Related to Communicable Diseases/ COVID 19

Each participating athlete will have to submit a signed copy of the attached Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability Related to Communicable Diseases/ COVID 19 form to their coaches before participating in any activities on the campus.

Daily Check-In

Each day when an athlete arrives on campus all participants will be screened in a designated area for symptoms upon arrival to each training session. Anyone currently experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, runny nose or congestion, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea is not permitted to participate and will be sent home immediately. Responses to screening questions for each person will be recorded and stored so there is a record of everyone present in case a student develops COVID-19.

All attending athletes are required to provide for themselves and bring to each session a mask or face covering that must be worn at all times when not directly engaged in conditioning activities.

Water Bottles

Athletes need to bring their own water bottles as all hydration stations and water fountains are shut down from usage as a matter of public safety and health. Water bottles are not to be shared.

All requirements are subject to change and even increase as new information and regulations come into play at the local and state levels. Please bear with us and be patient as we seek to navigate the changing expectations as we try to keep our activities open to our programs and athletes.

Athlete and Parent Expectations

Vulnerable individuals or those with health conditions or other risk factors should not participate in any workouts. If your athlete meets any of these criteria please keep them at home.

If an athlete is sick or experiencing any symptoms please do not send them to training sessions. Any person with possible COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to take part in workouts and will be asked to leave. They should contact his or her primary care provider or a health-care professional for medical advice.

During training and conditioning, if a student-athlete or someone in their immediate household tests positive for COVID-19, or has been exposed to and is being tested for COVID-19, he or she must not come to training and must NOTIFY the coach and school athletic director.

On Wednesday June 24th at 6 pm we will be hosting a Zoom Meeting to present much of this information again and take questions from our community regarding this reopening. Please use the information below to join us for a brief presentation and a Question and Answer session.
