Degrees and Certifications:
BS: Materials Engineering MS: Applied Physics (materials science focus) Secondary Ed Credential: Science (Physics)
The 2020-2021 school year is my second here at Antelope and I am very excited to be teaching both NGSS Physics and AP Physics 1. My goals for each one of my students is that they develop their capacity for critical thinking, scientific problem-solving ability, effective study/research skills, a growth mindset, and peer collaboration skills (that they will all need to be successful no matter what their futures hold), along with a basic understanding of the scientific principles that underlie the natural world we all inhabit.
My path to education was not the conventional one, I obtained a B.S. in Materials Engineering from Cal Poly SLO and an M.S. in Applied Physics from Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland; I also worked as an engineer in the manufacturing sector for few years. I decided to be a science teacher after observing some inspiring classrooms and got my credential at Humboldt State University. My favorite things in life outside science and education include my wife and two small children as well as reading, gardening, traveling, and exploring the natural beauty of northern California.
I understand that many students will find distance learning this fall difficult and want students and parents to know that I am on their side and will do my best to help all my students access and engage with the learning opportunities in their class equitably.
