Mr. Anthony Papic

I was born and raised in the  Chicago area.  As a high school student I was quiet and curious.  I ran cross country and track for 4 years.  In my junior year our school's cross-country team went to states for the first time.  That year and the next I ran on an all-star (local) team that went to the Junior Olympic National cross-country meet.  Running taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.

After graduating, our family moved to Arizona to get away from the cold and snow.  I attended  Arizona State University where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1991.  I have had the great fortune of experiencing -40 degree (-70 with wind-chill) temps in Chicago and 123 degrees in Phoenix.  At ASU I was active in student council, Greek life, Toastmasters, and international studies.  I spent one semestern in Washington, DC as an intern in the office of US Senator Dennis DeConcini.  Upon graduation I moved to Japan to teach English conversation for 3 years.  I enjoyed teaching so much that I stayed longer than I had originally planned and became the lead teacher at the Yokohama YMCA English school in Yamato for my last year.  Instead of using my savings to go into international law or business, I returned to America for a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from ASU and graduated Cum Laude in 1996.

We moved to Sacramento and I started substitute teaching in 1996.  My first position with the Roseville Joint Union High School District (RJUHSD) was when I taught Social Studies, Math, PE, Art, Foods/Cooking, Earth Science (& others) at Success HS 1997-2004.  During this time I became certified to teach Social Studies, Math, Business, and Computers.  I also studied about Waldorf Education at the Rudolf Steiner College during their Summer Teacher Training Program 1996-1999.  After 7 years at Success, I transferred to Adelante HS in 2004.  I now teach, almost exclusively, math and have been a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) since 2004.  At Adelante I have taken up the challenge of being the Career Fair Chair or co-Chair 2013-present.
