Mr. Javy Valdivia
Spanish Teacher/Assistant Athletic Director/World Language Dept. Coordinator
In this 2023-2024 school year, Mr Valdivia enters his 27th year of teaching at the high school level and is part of the original Panthers that opened WPHS in 2020.
"I have a passion for teaching Spanish because it is my native language. I am a native speaker who has also lived and continues to live through all cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries. I am always excited to share some of my experiences within the culture as part of our curriculum. Besides learning how to speak, read, comprehend and write in Spanish, I stress the importance of being responsible, mature, focused and respectful in the classroom. Valuable traits that will help my students way beyond their high school years".
Prior to joining the West Park team, Mr Valdivia was fortunate to open Antelope HS as a Spanish teacher and head baseball coach/Assistant AD. Prior to Antelope HS, Mr Valdivia spent 11 years at Woodland HS as a Spanish teacher and also served as the head baseball coach. His 2006 baseball team won the Division II Sac-Joaquin section championship and, for that, was named the Sac-Bee coach of the year.
Mr Valdivia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Chico State and a teacher credentialed from Sacramento State with a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development emphasis.
