Single Subject Art Teaching Credential BA Art Studio

Carissa Buschmann

New to the district but not new to teaching, Carissa Buschmann is an Artist, Educator, and Parent. She studied Art at UC Davis under the teaching of some of the most famous artists in the US, including Wayne Theibaud and Robin Hill. In achieving a BA in Art Studio in 2007, Mrs Buschmann went on to get her Single subject teaching credential in Art from Sacramento State University. Since then she has taught Sculpture, Ceramics, and Art 1. It has always been her passion to be a high school art teacher.

"In high school I would throw away my artwork after I was done. I didn't think my paintings were very good. My high school art teacher would pull them out of the trash and frame my art. Then he encouraged me to show my paintings at the Auburn Art Walk, a local show, during my senior year. To my surprise I sold a couple paintings and it was in that very moment that I decided I wanted to become a high school art teacher. My passion had been and still is to encourage adolescents to pursue their passions and seek a higher education or career training."

"Currently I'm teaching Art 1 and Photo 1.Wwhen I'm not teaching I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband and my kids. We are a blended family so I understand blending households and I think this helps me to be able to relate to my students. I'm currently in a split position teaching Art 1 at Antelope and Photo 1 at Oakmont High School. One could say I'm part of another blended family being at two schools. Don't make me pick between the two, they are both awesome schools! I love my job and I'm very excited to be apart of the Antelope/Viking family!
