Mrs. Lisa Benavides
Hello, my name is Lisa Benavides and I have worked at Oakmont High School since 1983. I am a Special Services Coordinator and School Psychologist, providing support to students who have an IEP. For the first 27 years of service I worked primarily as a school psychologist throughout the district including Oakmont, Roseville, Woodcreek, Granite Bay and Adelante High Schools. In 2011 I chose to work more directly with students, changing my focus to primairly student counseling, IEP management, and IEP service coordination under the position Special Services Coordinator/School Psychologist. I meet with students for guidance counseling activities, as well as for individual and group counseling services. As the SSC I also attend all student IEP meetings and provide consultation assistance to staff, parents, and community agency representatives.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, including my husband, adult daughter and adult son. Some of our favorite activities are going to movies (all kinds), finding new and different restaurants, taking 3 to 5 mile hikes in both urban and natural settings, playing tennis, and swimming or working out. I grew up in Santa Barbara California and am an avid boogie boarder and beach hiker. Every year our family (including 14 extended family members) rents a beach house along the central coast to spend a week doing all things related to beach life and entertainment. Some of my favorite life quotes you can find in my office are: 1) "Do what you can, where you are, with what you have" - Teddy Roosevelt. 2) "Never, never, never give up" - Winston Churchill. 3) "Be the change you wish to see in the world" - Ghandi.
