Mr. John Hunter

John Hunter has been a staff member at Oakmont since 2006 after coming to the school after two years at Delta High School in Clarksburg California and a year at Granite Bay High School. His classroom duties at Oakmont High School have included teaching World Studies, US History, Government, Economics, AP European History, and Social Psychology. In the classroom, Mr. Hunter enjoys helping his students and working with them to find individual and collective success as they take on the challenges that each course presents in terms of learning and skill development.

For the 20-21 school year, Mr. Hunter is returning to serve as a member of the Oakmont Health Careers Academy Teaching Staff after a two-year absence due to a different teaching assignment at Oakmont. Previously he served for twelve years as an Academy Social Science teacher and team member. He is excited to be rejoining the students and staff that make up this amazing program. As someone whose immediate family has a long history of serving in the field he is excited to assist students as they explore the opportunities the Academy provides those who seek a career in the field of Health Care.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Hunter serves as Athletic Director as a part of his lifelong involvement in coaching and athletics that includes over twenty years of coaching at the high school and collegiate levels in the Bay Area and Placer County. As a  strong believer in the transformational opportunities athletics, he has coached too many teams to count both in the educational environment and in the private club and recreation worlds. If on-campus and not in his classroom, you will usually find Mr. Hunter on the sidelines at various Oakmont Athletic events or visiting practices as a part of his role as Athletic Director.

Away from campus, Mr. Hunter is blessed to be married to his wonderful wife of over 20 years and watch his two sons and two daughters compete or perform in various athletics events and drama productions in the area or have them join him at the various Oakmont events they attend as a family on a regular basis.
