Cami Bettencourt attended Cal State University, Sacramento and received her BA in Theatre Arts, Dance. She has been teaching and choreographing since 2002 and started teaching at Oakmont in 2008. Prior to teaching at Oakmont High School, Cami also taught and created dance company’s at Whitney High School and Pleasant Grove High School. In her early years she taught and directed the dance company’s at Florin High School and Elk Grove High School.
Cami is the Dance Program Director, IB Dance teacher, Vikings Dance Team Coach and recently just put on a state wide Dance Teacher conference, Dance and Movement, at Chapman University two summers ago. She continues her education as leader in CAHPERD,(California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) and was elected Dance Teacher of the Year for 2018. She is also member of Shape America, where she currently is serving as Western Dance Teacher of the Year. Continuing dance education is very important to her and finds that it gives her that extra boost she needs to start off the year right.
Ms. Bettencourt’s ability to successfully develop students’ academic, social, and emotional needs make her a valuable part of the OHS team. She focuses on academic development while balancing students’ individual needs. She understands the need to be a shoulder to cry on, or a listening ear, when students have social/emotional needs. Just as important, Cami is a team player who is always willing to work with colleagues and adults in the OHS community. She is there for her students and fellow teachers at every turn.
