Mr. John Polli
I've been in education since 1985, substituting the first couple of years while simultaneously earning my elementary education teacher credential. I started working for the Oakland Public School District my first 13 years, eight years in elementary and five years junior high. During that time I also worked a few summers in San Leando Juvenile Hall and jail teaching Math and English. I was also afforded the opportunity to work with underachieving math students in an outdoor environment using hands-on activities in Quincy and Alliance Redwoods as principal during the summers of '98 and '99. In 2000, I started in the Roseville Joint Union High School District at Roseville High for a partial semester, and then Woodcreek for an entire semester, both for math. It was then in 2001 I was hired at Oakmont for math.
Growing up in New Yawk, I graduated from Hicksville High (1975), and Nassau Community College (Cum Laude-1979), both on Long Island and the State University of New York @ Fredonia with a B.S. in Business Admininstration (Cum Laude-1979). During those times my dad took me on many construction sites in the NY metropolitan area from Downtown Wall Street to the Bronx, but mostly mid-town. When I graduated from Fredonia State, I worked my first white-collar position at Toshiba America, Inc., on the 50th floor of One Penn Plaza, across the street from Madison Square Garden and down the block from the Empire State Building. After that year in Manhattan it was time to "head west young man." I was fortunately offered positions at the time in New Jersey, Florida, and California and thankfully choose California. It was a few years after arriving that I answered the call to teach!
