Mr. Greg Strawn
My name is Greg Strawn, and I have taught English and Public Speaking here at Oakmont High School since 1993. I have also been an adjunct English Professor at American River College since 2000. I have taught and/or presently teach Dual Enrollment College Composition and Advanced Argumentation to students at high schools all around the Sacramento area, including: Del Oro, Foothills, Highlands, Natomas, Grant, Aspire, Leroy Greene, and others. I have recently been hired by Sierra Community College to teach College English 1A. I have earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in my subject, English. I am also a public speaking coach at Oakmont. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was fifteen years old, and I regularly write poetry, fiction, and creative essays in whatever time is left over. In 2017 (republished in 2021), I released my first book of poetry: Flight. My second book of poetry, Splinters, will be published later in 2022.
I grew up, skateboarding and surfing, in Southern California. I was married in 1984 to the love of my life and have five adult children, five children-in-law, and twelve grandchildren. Most of my time outside of work is spent being a husband, a dad, and a grandpa. I find great peace in hanging out with my family in the redwood forests of Northern California, at the beaches in both Southern and Northern California, as well as in my own backyard.
I consider it a privilege to be able to help all students successfully prepare for college and for their future adult lives. It is my desire that they will all live happy and productive lives.
