Joanne McHugh became an Oakmont guidance counselor in 1997. She has previously served as an elementary guidance counselor and teacher in Rhode Island, Texas, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada. Joanne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University, and her Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada.
Ms. McHugh resides in Roseville. Her two grown sons include a commercial pilot serving in the USAF Reserves, and the other serving as a pediatrician/flight surgeon in the USAF. Ms. McHugh is also the proud grandmother of three. She loves nature, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. After moving around the US and Canada much of her adult life, Ms. McHugh greatly appreciates the Viking tradition, students, and professional staff at Oakmont. Her ultimate goal is to assist her students with academic, college, career, and personal guidance, in an effort to motivate them to grow toward their full potential.
