Mrs. Susan Carmon
Hello! I'm Susan Carmon and I am very fortunate to be a teacher here at Oakmont. It's been a great journey that began in 1986 when I started my college studies at California State University, Stanislaus. I transfered to San Jose State University in 1988 where I studied graphic design, photography, and English. I earned my single subject teaching credential in English and began teaching in earnest in 1991 at Independence High School in San Jose. In 1993, I moved to the Sacramento area and taught for one year at Rio Americano High School and seven years at Folsom High School, at which point I added art to my teaching credential and, with a grant from Intel Corporation, I began Folsom's digital arts program. I then moved to Seattle, Washington, where I lived for three years and worked as an in-house graphic designer. I then returned to Sacramento and, after a few years as a stay-at-home mom, I returned to teaching in 2007 here at Oakmont. I began teaching English and graphic design and have since added AP Art History, photography, and AP Studio Art.
On the light side, my favorite place in the whole wide world is Seattle, where I was married and had my first child. My husband Joe and I are madly in love with our two boys, Sam and Eric. We love camping in Bodega Bay, road trips to Bode, Seattle, and other picturesque places. In addition to work and family, I fill my time with reading mystery and fantasy series, walking the dog, listening to alt rock and classic Beatles and 80s, watching all kinds of movies, and enjoying mochas topped with way too much whipped cream.
