Education empowers -- that is why I chose to teach. I believe that my classroom is one of family, love, support, and encouragement, wherein we intentionally and meaningfully become knowledgeable and efficacious citizens. I was drawn to teaching because of the gaps I experienced in my previous careers: my graduate research focused on how people feel like they can change "the system" (and unfortunately they don't feel like they can), and my journalism work constantly felt at odds in a world that values click-bait and personal agendas. These frustrations led me to the classroom, where I in turn seek to facilitate experiences for my students so that they do not just learn the content -- they become change-makers through it. True democracy begins with the youth.

I'm a transplant to Roseville, born and raised in Orange County. I spent my college and early career years in Chicago, moving out to Sacramento for graduate school at Davis. I am very happy here, especially considering the close proximity to a major state's capitol (!!!). I have two cats and a dog, all named after nerdy video game characters. I am a huge dork, overly enthusiastic about pretty much everything. My guiding philosophy is "life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond."

"The cornerstone of democracy rests on the foundation of an educated electorate." --Thomas Jefferson
