Required Training and Forms for District Volunteer Driving Privileges
Volunteer Driving Requirements
ALL Volunteer Drivers must be an “Approved Volunteer” by the school site/District.
ALL Volunteer Drivers must complete the online “Defensive Driver Course” (instructions below)This includes the following:
- Driving District Vans with or without students..
- Driving Personal vehicles with students.
- Personal vehicles used to haul equipment or tow District vehicles or district rented trailers.
Here are the specific requirements for each category.
DISTRICT VAN (with or without students)
- Approved District volunteer
- "Use of Vehicle on School Business” (form) top half of the front, signature on the back.
- A copy of valid California Driver's License
- Certificate of completion for the Defensive Driving Course
- No proof of insurance required.
PERSONAL VEHICLE
- Approved District Volunteer
- "Use of Vehicle on School Business” (form)
- A copy of valid California Driver's License
- Certificate of completion for the Defensive Driving Course
- The declaration page of their personal auto insurance policy. minimum coverage required $100,000.00/$300,000.00/$50,000.00
TOWING ONLY
District Vans are NOT to be used as a tow vehicle.
Towing only, using personal vehicles – with or without students in vehicles
- Approved District Volunteer

To Become a Volunteer Driver
To become a volunteer driver, please complete the following:
Step 1 ~ Complete 'Use of Vehicle on School Business' form. This includes your authorization for the Director of Transportation to review your driving record. You will remain in the DMV pull notice program to stay eligible to drive for the district.
Step 2 ~ A) Complete Online Defensive Driving Course (approximately 1 hours in length). https://learning-dgs.csod.com/client/learning-dgs/orim.aspx
~ B) Upon Completion of the course, Print the Certificate, Sign & Date.
Step 3 ~ Visit the Transportation Office or email all completed paperwork including training certificate, a copy of your current CDL, & completed Use of Vehicle on School Business Form

Defensive Driver Online Training System Requirements
To operate the Defensive Driver Online Training, please ensure that you meet the following system requirements:

- Free download versions of the Adobe products can be found at www.adobe.com
- Disable Pop-Up Blockers

When all original documents are received and approved by the Transportation Department Director, your name will be posted to the District van list. Approval can take up to 48 hours.
NOTE: All volunteers/drivers must have DOJ/FBI fingerprint and TB clearance per Administrative Regulation 1240. This process starts at the school site by submitting a completed volunteer application to the school.
