RJUHSD is heavily using the ChromeOS platform, which includes Chromebook, Chromeboxes, and Chromecast. With the light and extremely user friendly operating system, RJUHSD is able to manage and secure devices much more efficiently than before.
Each time you turn on or use your Chromebook, it automatically checks for updates and installs them. Your Chromebook also lets you know when new updates are ready so that you'll always have the latest version of the operating system.
Install available updates
If your Chromebook sees available updates while you’re signed in, the system update icon will appear in the status area. Follow these steps to install the updates:
Click the status area in the lower-right corner where you see your account picture.
Select Restart to update.
Your Chromebook will shut down and automatically restart with the updates installed.
Check for updates
You can also check for updates if you want to install them sooner, in your chrome browser bar go to Chrome://help or follow the steps below:
Click the status area in the lower-right corner where your account picture appears.
Select Settings.
At the top of the page that opens, click About Chrome OS.
In the “About” window that appears, click the Check for and apply updates button.
Once any updates are done, you can look in the "About" window to confirm that your Chromebook is up to date.
You may find that when you are trying to video conference your mic or webcam on a website isn't working, try these steps first before putting in a work order.
Website with a Settings Icon
On some website, Google Meets in the this case, you may notice a settings icon on the website itself.
Click the settings gear and note the pop-up that appears, it has two tabs
Audio, allows you to select which speakers it is using and which microphone it is accessing
Video, which allows you to select which webcam it is using (if you have additional webcams installed)
Camera Icon
If the website itself has no settings or you still aren't seeing your webcam or getting mic or sound try these steps
The Omnibar (URL Bar) on the right side in some cases may have a Camera glyph (
) that you can click for an additional drop-down menu.
Make sure you are allowing the website access to your hardware.
If you have multiple webcams you would use this drop-down to select which camera the website uses.
Lock Glyph
If neither of these areas have resolved your webcam or mic issue then try the following
Click the lock glyph to access an additional popup menu.
Make sure that Camera and Microphone are set to allow. If you don't see those options you may have to check under "Site Settings" at the bottom of the drop down menu.
To adjust your Chromebook screen, select Built-in Display. To adjust your monitor screen, select the name of the monitor.
Make items on your screen smaller or larger: In the "Display size" section, choose an option.
Rotate the screen: In the "Orientation" section, choose an option.
[Optional] Under your monitor tab, you can also:
Change screen sharpness: In the "Resolution" section, choose an option.
Change frequency of screen updates: Choose a higher refresh rate to refresh content on the screen faster.
Tip: To quickly move windows or apps from one screen to another, on your keyboard, press Search
+ Alt + m or Launcher
+ Alt + m.
Show your Chromebook screen on your monitor (mirroring)
At the bottom right, select the time.
Select Settings .
In the "Device" section, select Displays.
Select Mirror Built-in Display. This option will appear when your monitor is connected.
Tip: To view your Chromebook screen only on your monitor, press and hold Decrease brightness.
Rotate in Screen Orientation in Chrome OS
Sometimes you want your screen to be flipped or in portrait mode. Follow these steps to rotate your Chromebook/Chromebox screen.
Press the Ctrl + Shift + Refresh keys to begin the screen rotation process on your Chromebook. A pop-up will ask whether you want to perform the action or not. If you’re here, you probably want to do it, so click Continue. This will rotate the screen by 90 degrees each time you perform the shortcut.

Open your Settings.
Go to Device, then Displays.
Click the orientation dropdown menu.
Choose your preferred orientation.
Use an adapter to connect your Chromebook to a monitor
Sometimes you need an adapter cable to connect your Chromebook to a monitor. To learn what type of cable you need, check the instructions included with your Chromebook.
Find the display output and input ports on your Chromebook. (If you’re not sure which ports to use, check the instructions included with your Chromebook.)
Use these two ports to find the correct adapter (ex. DisplayPort to HDMI).
Plug the adapter into the monitor, then into your Chromebook.
