Advanced Learning Pathways
RJUHSD offers a variety of advanced learning opportunities that allow students to challenge themselves academically, explore areas of interest in greater depth, and prepare for college, career, and future learning.
Opportunities vary by school and may include Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Project Lead the Way (PLTW), dual enrollment, and other advanced or specialized coursework. Students and families are encouraged to work with their school counselor to identify options that align with the student's interests, goals, and academic plan.
Advanced Placement (AP)
College-level courses and exams offered at many RJUHSD schools. AP coursework allows students to engage in rigorous academic study and may provide opportunities to earn college credit or advanced placement, depending on the college or university.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
A rigorous, internationally recognized program that emphasizes critical thinking, inquiry, communication, and connections across disciplines.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
A sequence of hands-on, project-based courses in areas such as engineering and STEM that allows students to apply academic learning to real-world challenges.
Dual Enrollment & College Coursework
Opportunities for students to complete college coursework while still in high school through RJUHSD's partnership with Sierra College.
Choosing the Right Pathway
Advanced coursework should be challenging while also supporting a student's overall well-being, interests, and long-term goals. Students are encouraged to consider course prerequisites, workload, extracurricular commitments, graduation and A–G requirements, and postsecondary plans when selecting advanced courses.
