Curriculum, Framework and Assessment Resources

RJUHSD adopted Open Up Resources for IM1-IM3.  To see the curriculum, please go to openupresources.org.

This graphic shows the pathways available to all students over four years.  Note: Some schools also offer specialty programs such as Dual Enrollment (with Sierra College) and International Baccalaureate courses.  Please check the course catalogs at each school for specific course offerings.

Yes!  The main difference between Open Up Resources and RJUHSD's former curriculum is how the material is being taught.  Teachers are focusing more on the Standards of Mathematical Practice.  Additionally, we are integrating the material being taught to a greater extent.  For example, geometry was previously found mainly in IM2 but will now be spread out throughout IM1, IM2, and IM3.  This will allow for greater retention and processing time for students as well as provide opportunities for connections between mathematical topics.

Open Up Resources received the highest possible scores for both Focus & Coherence and Rigor & Mathematical Practices on EdReports.  It is one of the most highly-ranked math curriculums.  Students will be well-prepared for higher-level math classes both in high school and at the university level.

Yes!  We are on the 4x4 block system, which means that students complete 4 courses over 4 months in the fall and the same in the spring for a total of 8 per year. On this schedule, a student may choose to take two math classes, which would keep them in math all year long. We recommend that you work together with your child’s counselor to determine the most successful four-year plan for them.

Students that are possibly interested in a career in STEM should complete the Integrated Math (IM) series, and continue through Calculus. Additionally, some may find Data Science and AP Statistics provide interesting alternatives. The best thing to do is to meet with your counselor and create your four-year plan, making sure to include at least one math class each year.

You can often find helpful videos on Youtube.com by searching the name of the lesson and MVP.  For example, IM1's first lesson is called “Checkerboard Borders”, so you could search “checkerboard borders MVP” on Youtube and find this video.

Teacher Videos:

Many sites offer videos created by their own teachers.  Here is an example of the videos created for IM1, Unit 1 at Granite Bay High School.  Please reach out to your teacher to see what resources they offer.

IXL:

This is great for skill practice and IXL makes a personalized plan for our curriculum.  On each of these links, you will find a three-digit code for each skill.  Simply type that code into the search bar on IXL for extra practice.  Remember that IXL also offers videos and other forms of help if you are struggling with a skill.

Ready/Set/Go Problems:

These problems are often assigned by teachers as homework but can also be found on the “Open Up Resources” website.  They can be used for extra practice and are designed to be review and/or practice for today/practice for tomorrow.  To find these, click on the link for your class:

Free online tutoring:

Now available 24/7 due to a new pilot program through local libraries. "Real-time" homework assistance can be accessed 24/7 here - students/parents can click on the “HelpNow” link to reach a one-on-one tutor.

IXL is a great resource to work on a math foundation.  In addition to the skill plans above (which are helpful for IM1-3), all IM1 and IM2 students take a diagnostic test that subsequently assigns activities specifically designed for your child.  These activities meet each student at the math level they are currently at and will help them build their math foundation.

The Standards of Mathematical Practice address the way we think about math and help students build their ability to persevere in problem-solving. In addition to the resources available at home (listed above), please communicate your need for help with your teacher as soon as you feel lost.  Your intervention period is also a great time to receive some extra help.
