Currently in the midst of my 24th year in the classroom, and I am as motivated today as I was on day one of my career. I respect individuals, prioritize relationships, and always remember that a student might forget the content I deliver, but they will never forget how they feel in my classroom. I work hard to set up and maintain a learning environment that is comforting and comfortable, welcoming and accepting, safe and student-centered. In my AP U.S. History classes, I work hard to deliver and work with content in a variety of ways to maximize engagement, participation, and retention, and to push students to look at History from a variety of perspectives including that of today. Collaboration, academic discourse, critical thinking, and reflection make up the foundation of the work we do in APUSH. In my AP Psychology classes, we cover all major schools of thought, approaches, psychologists, and theories in interactive ways. We read and apply principles and theories every day, and we constantly work to spiral what we learn into our own learning. It is one of the most personally relatable and instantly relevant courses in school. Collaboration, connecting, cooperating, and communicating and essential features of the learning process in AP Psychology; it is active, hands-on, and different everyday. In both AP classes, independent reading is a crucial aspect of pacing and success in the course.
In the 2018-19 school year I am teaching 2 sections of AP U.S. History and 1 section of AP Psychology. I am constantly looking for ways to grow as an educator and as a person. I value optimism, support, independence and intrinsic motivation, being open-minded, relationships and authenticity, humor, competition, confidence, making mistakes and learning from them, and mastering fundamental skills for long-term growth and success. I coach the girls' tennis team, I am SENIOR class advisor, and I am a Link Crew Coordinator. I am inspired everyday by my family, my students, and my colleagues. And I love being a Titan.
