Who are we?
To be on the team, competitors must be enrolled in the fall course, known as Speech and Debate 2 (In the spring, we become an after-school program). This class is designed to offer direct instruction in competitive speech and debate events. The variety of competition offerings allows for students with diverse interests/skills to discover the events with which they are compatible. Students who take Speech and Debate 2 enjoy performing. This course is devoted to competition preparation and is structured according to speaking events officially recognized by the National Speech & Debate Association. Students do extensive research and are required to attend and participate in events held outside of school hours. This course is offered to freshmen through seniors. The competitive season runs August to April, and for those competing at Nationals, to June. (S&D 2 satisfies UC/CSU g-elective)
For more information, contact the team's coach, Mrs. Elko.

Woodcreek S&D Qualifies 15 Competitors to State Championships!
Adithi Rao earned Woodcreek's seventh Orator's Cup. This award is the highest honor given by the Capitol Valley Forensic League. It places her on a "dream team" of only five speakers, all of whom are considered the best in the Sacramento valley.
Senior, Hunter Bos, received the President's Award, which acknowledges his four years of competing with at least one state-qualifying bid.
Woodcreek's S&D team spent the last two weekends competing for spots to the state championships, which will be at James Logan High School in Union City, April 24-26. We competed in 11 speaking styles and made it to finals in 10 of them. We also advanced to finals in Parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas debate as well as Congress.
Woodcreek's speech team earned 31 awards at last weekend's speech qualifier! Since competitors are only allowed to take one speech event to state championships, the actual number of students attending state is yet to be determined.
Woodcreek's speech & debate team ends the fall schedule with 146 awards!
