• Movement Skills And Movement Knowledge  
     
    Standard 1
    The student will be competent in many movement activities and will excel in a few movement activities.

    Students who meet this standard will be able to:

    • Show advanced competence in a few of these units: Dance,swimming/boating,softball,team building,badminton,volleyball,golf and recreational games.
    • Students will discuss their competence through self and peer assessments or an acceptable grade on a rubric-based skill evaluation. Students may be assessed by the teacher.
     

    Standard 2
    The student will understand how and why one moves in a variety of situations and will use this information to enhance his or her skills.

    • Use this principle of movement to accomplish a task with least effort.
    • Apply knowledge of scientific or biomechanical principles to improve performance activity or sport.
    • Analyze and supply offensive and defensive strategies in games and sports.

    The following assignments will be used to meet this standard:

    1. Prior to a game/activity, teams will meet to discuss the offensive/defensive strategies they will apply.
    2. Students will demonstrate how to use principles of movement in various units taught through peer and teacher based assessments.
     
    Standard 3
    The student will achieve and maintain a health enhancing level of physical fitness.
    • Discuss and analyze a physical fitness program that relates to total wellness.
    • Use results of fitness assessments to guide changes in their personal activity program.
    • Apply principles of training to monitor and adjust activity levels to meet personal fitness needs.
    • Understand that the level of participation and proficiency in physical activity is likely to change as a person matures and develop strategies to ensure fitness throughout the life cycle.
    • Understand the relationship between nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

    The following assignments will be used to meet this standard:

    1. Periodic monitored fitness testing to assess initial fitness levels and allow for goal setting and development of personal training program within the parameters of Physical Education curriculum.
    2. Weekly aerobic activities,fitness training and stretching activities as part of each unit.
    3. Integration with Health 2.
      Self-image and Personal Development   Standard 4

    The student will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment,challenge, and self-expression.

    • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to maintain an active lifestyle independently throughout their life.
    • Identify the ways in which personal characteristics, performance styles, and activity preferences will change over the life cycle.
    • Identify personal physical activities which provide enjoyment and challenge.

    The following assignments will be used to meet this standard:

    1. Periodic discussion related to active lifestyles, personal activity preferences, and health/nutrition issues.
    2. Daily participation in PE and peer/teacher/self assessments that will be given.
    3. Students will participate in periodic fitness assessments and will set personal goals to show improvement throughout the term.
      Standard 5

    The student will demonstrate responsible personal behavior while participating in movement activities.

    • Set goals and work toward their achievement.
    • Create a safe environment for their own skill practice.
    • Keep the importance of winning and losing in perspective relative to other established goals of participation.

    The following assignments and tasks will be used to meet this standard:

    1. Students will discuss at the beginning of each new term that focuses on safety rules and procedures for in-class activities.
    2. Daily lectures and discussion in various will address the issues of winning and losing and what role they play in a relation to real life and active living.
    3. Students will participate in periodic fitness assessments and will set personal to show improvement throughout the term.
      Social Development   Standard 6

    The student will demonstrate responsible social behavior while participating in movement activities.The student will understand the importance of respect for all others.

    • Take roles of leaders or followers as appropriate to accomplish group goals(Team Building activities are taught with this objective in mind.).
    • Acknowledge outstanding performance of opponents as well as of their own team.
    • Diffuse potential conflicts through positive communication.
    • Acknowledge and respect stylistic differences in performance.

    The following assignments and tasks will be used to meet the standard:

    1. All unit instruction will address and discuss appropriate ways to resolve conflict and the respect for all others.
    2. Daily participation in all the units.
    3. Periodic discussion and assessments relating to the above topics.

       Standard 7

    The student will understand the interrelationship between history and culture and games,sports,play, and dance.

    • Identify current career opportunities in physical education and related fields.
    • Recognize the historical roles of games,sports,and dance in the cultural life of a population.

    The following assignments and tasks will be used to meet this standard:

    1. Students will take part in a group discussion that addresses the various career opportunities in physical education and related fields.
