    Instructions for work permit requests:
YOU DO NOT NEED A WORK PERMIT TO APPLY FOR A JOB. YOU ONLY NEED A WORK PERMIT PROCESSED IF YOU HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY HIRED BY A COMPANY.

    • Drop off your completed* work permit application with Ms. Luna in the Counseling Department
*The following sections must be completed before your work permit is processed: Student info with SSN, Employer info and signature, Parent signature. An incomplete work permit application will delay the processing time of your permit.
    • Students will be notified via email when the work permit is ready for pick-up. Students must be present at pick-up. Work permits may take 24 hours to process.

To qualify for a work permit, you must currently have a 2.0+ GPA and/or no more than 1 F grade, and satisfactory attendance. If you do not qualify, admin and counselor approval will be needed before Ms. Luna issues the work permit.

    Important details about work permits:

    • Students need work permits if a) they are enrolled in high school AND if b) they are under 18 years old. Once a student turns 18, they do not need a work permit, even if they are still in high school. Once a student graduates from high school, they do not need a work permit, even if they are under 18 at the time of graduation.

    • The amount of hours a student can work is not decided on by the Career Center, but by the State of California. A breakdown of the hours allowed, based on age, is on the back of the work permit application (or page 2).
