Oakmont Hall of Fame Inductee - 2021
Lucy Sakaishi Oakmont Faculty and Coach (1974-1996)Coach Sak’s was the first CIF girls’ track and field coach in 1974 with 50 girls turning out for the team. She learned all the events to coach and placed her athletes in their events. Besides coaching T & F all her 23 years at Oakmont, she coached one year of tennis and 12 years of volleyball. She was hired as a science and home economics teacher, and later she was part of the PE department to teach athletic PE and aerobic fitness. When the “boys joined the girls’ team”, her specialty was the jumps: long, triple, and high jump. She often volunteered in helping run the Golden West Invitational, the best nationwide track meet for seniors. After coaching T & F at Oakmont, Coach Sak’ transferred to open Granite Bay High School as FACS dept. head and Aerobic Fitness teacher and the head T & F coach.
