Instructions for work permit requests:
YOU DO NOT NEED A WORK PERMIT TO APPLY FOR A JOB. YOU ONLY NEED A WORK PERMIT PROCESSED IF YOU HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY HIRED BY A COMPANY.-
Drop off your completed* work permit application at the Career Center with Ms. Miller.
*The following sections must be completed before your work permit is processed: Student info with SSN, Employer info and signature, and a parent signature. - Electronic signatures, digital or photocopied permit applications will not be accepted.
-
An incomplete work permit application will delay the processing time of your permit.
-
If a Work Permit is dropped off before first lunch, it will be ready by the end of the day. If it is dropped off after the first lunch, it will be completed the following day.
To qualify for a work permit, you must have a 2.0+ GPA, no more than one F, and satisfactory attendance. If you do not qualify, admin and counselor approval will be needed before Ms. Miller issues the work permit.
Important details about work permits:-
Students need work permits if a) they are enrolled in high school AND if b) they are under 18 years old. Once a student turns 18, they do not need a work permit, even if they are still in high school. Once a student graduates from high school, they do not need a work permit, even if they are under 18 at the time of graduation.
-
The amount of hours a student can work is not decided on by the Career Center, but by the State of California. A breakdown of the hours allowed, based on age, is on the back of the work permit application (or page 2).
