Fire Sprinkler Head Preparation:
All sprinkler heads need to be prepared prior to install with the use of Teflon sealant and Teflon tape. Adhering a watertight seal prevents fire sprinkler leaks and helps to maintain system pressure. The only materials required for this task are the fire sprinkler heads, the sealant (also known as pipe dope), Teflon tape, and a makeup brush. There is no use of power tools or machinery to get this done. It requires nothing more than decent eye hand coordination and finger manipulation skills. First, the sprinkler head outlet threads are examined to ensure they are clean and free of anything that can disrupt the seal or damage the gasket. Then the threads of the sprinkler head are painted by the makeup brush that has been saturated with the sealant. Once the sealant is on, Teflon tape is wrapped around the thread of the sprinkler head three times and torn off. This tape is thin and easily manipulated. This step is necessary for all fire sprinkler heads prior to installation.
Pipes supplying fire sprinkler and standpipe systems with water can quickly become heavy. To prevent all that water from becoming a liability, those pipes are held in place by load-bearing pipe hangers. Pipe hangers may consist of a single piece that grips the pipe and secures it to some part of the building, as well as hanger assemblies that accomplish the same task with several different parts. We use a variety of materials in our hanger preparation. The choice of hanger depends on what parts of the building are supporting the pipe. Our hanger preparation typically includes spinning side beam brackets, economical brackets used to support piping from wood, concrete or steel beams onto a piece of all thread rod, a readily available fastener. This job is non weight bearing and utilizes fine motor skills. This task is similar to spinning nuts, bolts, and washers onto a threaded metal screw.
