4x4 Schedule
What is 4x4 Schedule?
All high schools in RJUHSD, including WPHS, operates with a 4x4 (four-by-four) schedule, which means we operate on a block schedule, and the same periods of classes are held every day (M-F) and approximately 90 minutes long. Because of the long duration of class every day, students complete a full school year within only one semester.
1 Quarter of 4x4 = 1 Semester of traditional
1 Semester of 4x4 = 1 Year of traditionalWhy does RJUHSD use the 4x4 Schedule?
The 4x4 Schedule is modeled off of the college scheduling structure, which is one way we work to help with college readiness.
What are the benefits of a 4x4 Schedule?
The 4x4 Schedule allows students the opportunity:
- The benefit of trying out more classes than a traditional bell schedule. Students complete a total of 8 courses in a school year whereas a traditional schedule of say, 6 periods per day, would only permit students to complete a total of 6 courses in the full school year.
- It also allows more time to repeat classes if needed.
- It allows students to take more classes to explore interests and continue in areas they enjoy, and complete pathways faster (in some cases), like complete Spanish 1 in the fall and Spanish 2 in the spring.
- Change their schedule faster should they not enjoy a particular subject as much.
