ELD ENGLISH 3
Open to grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: ELPAC Levels 3/4
ELD English 3 is a college preparatory English language arts course designed to successfully transition English learner students into grade level English language arts. Throughout the term, students will improve their understanding of the English language with a specific focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will interact in meaningful ways to learn how language works so they are able to demonstrate language proficiency at the mainstream level, based on the district's English 9 ELO's (and English Standards) and the Common Core College and Career Readiness Standards.
This course will focus on providing individuals with the skills and academic language needed to interact with a variety of text features, forms, and genres so that students become independent and critical readers, as well as skillful writers of narrative, argumentative, and expository compositions.
This course will also build awareness of language resources and how meaning is made through language choice, in order to become effective and compelling speakers and listeners. As a result, students will advance through the sequence of the course and carry these foundational skills into their core classes throughout their high school career.
